Charles First Faculty: General Science and the MMI

The Charles First Faculty exam, 2026/27: 75 questions, made of 25 chemistry, 25 biology and 25 General Science. No physics paper. Then an online MMI.

In short. The Charles First Faculty exam has 75 questions in English. There are 25 in chemistry, 25 in biology and 25 in General Science. There is no physics paper and no maths option. If you pass, an online MMI follows. All facts are for the 2026/27 cycle.

Is there a physics paper? Or maths instead?

No to both. The First Faculty says there is no pure physics test.[1] The third part is General Science. There is no maths option either.

General Science still has some physics. Its official mock asks about motion, energy, circuits and waves. So keep your school physics fresh.

The other two Czech schools work differently:

  • Masaryk: physics is a full test of 40 questions.
  • Palacký: you choose physics or maths.

The exam at a glance

The Charles First Faculty exam, 2026/27. Step 1 is a written test, in person, in English. In the official mock, questions 1 to 25 are chemistry, 26 to 50 biology and 51 to 75 General Science. Each has one best answer of 4. There is no physics paper. Step 2, if you pass, is an online MMI, usually within a week. The time limit and the scoring are not on the exam-preparation page.

You sit the written test in person, in English. The exam-preparation page says faculty members supervise it. Agencies organise the dates abroad, so ask yours who supervises there. Each question has one best answer. The official mock runs in this order:[2]

QuestionsPart
1 to 25Chemistry
26 to 50Biology
51 to 75General Science

Each mock question has four options, A to D.

What is General Science?

General Science tests science skills with numbers and data. The faculty's General Science mock asks about skills like these:[3]

  1. Units and measuring: conversions such as cubic metres to litres, or km/h to m/s. Significant figures. The dimensions of a quantity: which units it is built from.
  2. Charts and percentages: reading bar charts, and charts that split a total into parts.
  3. Averages and spread: the mean, tolerance (the allowed error around a target) and standard deviation. Correlation versus cause.
  4. Graphs: straight-line equations, growth by doubling, and decay.
  5. Basic physics: motion and free fall, kinetic energy, buoyancy, resistors in parallel, waves and the electromagnetic spectrum, the simple pendulum.
  6. Biology with numbers: DNA bases as percentages.

These are skill types only. We never copy a faculty question. Print the General Science checklist and tick each skill you can do.

How to prepare for General Science (our tips):

  • Do the official General Science mock first. Mark it, and list the skills you missed.
  • Practise unit conversions until they are quick.
  • Read one chart or table a day. Say what it shows in one sentence.
  • Revise motion, energy, circuits and waves from your school physics.

Are there past papers?

The faculty posts official mock tests and topic lists on its exam-preparation page.[1] Start there. We do not have past papers, and we do not sell them.

How to use the mocks (our tips):

  1. Do one full mock in one go. Note how long you take. The exam-preparation page gives no time limit, so check the admission page.
  2. Mark it. List each topic you missed.
  3. Find each topic on the biology or chemistry list. Study it, then try again.

What the biology and chemistry lists cover

The faculty advises you to study each subject for at least 2 of your last 4 school years.[1]

The biology list has three sections:[4]

  • Systematic biology (how living things are grouped): from protozoa to primates, plus viruses and bacteria
  • General biology and genetics: the cell, DNA and inheritance, evolution and ecology
  • Human biology: each body system, from bones and blood to hormones, nerves and the senses

The chemistry list is one long list:[5]

  • atoms, the periodic table and bonding
  • calculations with moles and equations
  • solutions, acids, bases and pH
  • redox, reaction rates and equilibria
  • organic chemistry
  • proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids

What is the MMI?

MMI means multiple mini-interviews. You have several short interviews, one after another. At the First Faculty, in 2026/27:[1]

  • It is online.
  • Only those who pass the written test are invited.
  • It is usually within a week of the written test.

The exam-preparation page does not say how the MMI is scored. Our practice will not simulate it.

Getting ready for an online interview (our tips):

  • Test your camera, sound and internet the day before.
  • Use a quiet room with good light.
  • Practise short spoken answers of about two minutes.
  • Practise saying why you want to study medicine.

The 2026 exam dates

On 5 September 2026, the faculty's dates page listed 12 exams on 11 dates (two on 13 July).[6] Agencies ran most of them. The faculty ran Prague itself. Use them to plan for 2027.

The faculty says dates may change. Confirm with your representative. See your 2027 timeline, month by month.

Not an EU citizen? Masaryk's 2026/27 document says a Czech student visa takes about three months. So ask the faculty or your agency if a late-August date still allows a September start. Taking A-levels? Check each date against your exams and your results day.

What the exam-preparation page does not give

The faculty's exam-preparation page (2026/27) does not give:

  • the time limit
  • the scoring or a pass mark
  • the fee to apply
  • the tuition fee

Check the faculty's admission page and tuition page. The preparation page also states no minimum English score. The written test is all in English.

Only the First Faculty

Charles University has other medical faculties. Each one sets its own exam. This guide covers the First Faculty of Medicine in Prague only. See also our Charles page.

Practice for Charles, when it opens

When practice opens, it will follow the official mock's format: 75 questions, with General Science. It will explain every answer. It will not cover the MMI. See when practice opens.
