Masaryk vs Charles vs Palacký: The Three Exams Compared
In short. Masaryk, Charles First Faculty and Palacký each set their own English entrance exam. All three test biology and chemistry. The third subject differs. Masaryk sets a full physics test. Charles sets General Science. Palacký lets you choose physics or maths. All figures are for the 2026/27 cycle.

What "Not stated" means:
- Palacký: its General Medicine page and admissions page do not give this. Ask the faculty.
- Charles: its exam-preparation page does not give this. Check its admission page and tuition page.
- Palacký fee and tuition: as listed on its General Medicine page in August 2026.
*As listed on the Charles dates page on 5 September 2026.[3]

Two notes before you start:
- Charles has more than one medical faculty. Each sets its own exam. This guide covers the First Faculty only.
- Looking for an MBBS? At Masaryk, the degree is called MUDr. The faculty says it equals an M.D.
Masaryk: three tests and a clear pass mark
Masaryk sets three separate tests, each with 40 questions in 50 minutes. You only need a simple calculator. You may sit once per admission year (2026/27 document).[1]
Our tip: 24 of 40 (60%) in each test is the minimum. Higher scores get places first. The faculty does not say if 60% counts per test or overall. Places go to the highest scores first.
You apply through the official agency for your country. Some school results replace the exam for General Medicine, such as top A-levels, the IB or the MCAT. See who can skip the Masaryk exam and how to use the sample tests.
Charles First Faculty: no physics paper, then an MMI
The First Faculty admits in two steps (2026/27):[2]
- A written test, in person, in English. It has 75 questions: 25 biology, 25 chemistry and 25 General Science. Each has one best answer.
- An online MMI, for those who pass. MMI means several short interviews, one after another. It is usually within a week.
The faculty says there is no pure physics test. Its General Science mock asks about:
- units and measuring: conversions, significant figures, dimensions
- charts and percentages
- averages and spread: mean, standard deviation, correlation
- graphs: straight lines, growth and decay
- basic physics: motion, energy, buoyancy, circuits, waves
- biology with numbers: DNA bases as percentages
The exam-preparation page gives no time limit, scoring or fees. More in our Charles guide.
Palacký: physics or maths, and an English rule
From the faculty's General Medicine page and topic list (2026/27):[4]
- Biology and chemistry, then physics or maths: you choose
- Biology has 16 official topics, from cells to ecology
- The faculty says the level matches British school exams
- One of its two chemistry books is an A-level text
- Its General Medicine page listed about 80 expected places (August 2026)
Try both the physics and the maths sample test, then pick the one you do better in. Unless you studied in English, you also need an English certificate or the university's own test. More in our Palacký guide.
When you apply and sit
Starting in September 2027? You will sit in 2027. Solid dots are 2026 dates. Dashed shapes are our estimate for 2027.
- Palacký: applications ran from 1 November 2025 to 31 July 2026. Apply at least two weeks before your exam date.
- Masaryk: online applications ran from 2 January to 31 July 2026. Non-EU applicants sat from January to April, May in some cases. We think UK passport holders count as non-EU. Confirm this with your agency. A student visa takes about three months.
- Charles First Faculty: on 5 September 2026, the dates page listed 12 exams on 11 dates. They ran from Hong Kong on 30 May to Palma on 4 September. That list had London on 4 July and 25 August, and Prague on 8 June.
Dates can change. Print your 2027 timeline, month by month.
Which exam suits you?
- Strong in physics? Masaryk gives it a full test. Palacký lets you choose it.
- Weak in physics? At Palacký you can pick maths. Charles has no physics paper, but General Science has some basic physics.
- Good with graphs, units and data? That is Charles's General Science.
- Want a clear target? Masaryk publishes its pass mark: 60% for General Medicine. Places then go to the highest scores.
- Have top A-levels, the IB or an Abitur? Check the Masaryk exemptions first. You may not need its exam.
Applying to two or three schools?
All three test biology and chemistry. Charles and Palacký both publish topic lists with cells, genetics, biochemistry, and general and organic chemistry. The third subject is where they differ. Plan for physics at Masaryk and General Science at Charles. Choose physics or maths at Palacký.
You may sit Masaryk only once per admission year. So give it the date when you are most ready.
When practice opens, All-School Prep will cover all three schools, each in its own format. It will not cover the interviews, the Palacký maths option or the Palacký English test. See when practice opens.
