Czech Medicine Entry Requirements
In short. At all three schools, the main entry requirement is the faculty's own entrance exam. At Masaryk, some top results replace the exam for General Medicine. At Charles First Faculty, top results let you skip the written test, but everyone sits the interviews. Masaryk and Charles ask for no English certificate. Palacký asks non-native speakers for B2 English, or its own English test on exam day.

Masaryk: the exam, unless your results replace it
You must pass the entrance exam. You may sit it only once per admission year.[1] Earlier study at Masaryk or at another university does not free you from it.
For General Medicine, some results replace the exam. Dentistry applicants always sit it. The routes:[1]
- MCAT: at least 24 or 500, by test year. US applicants must send it.
- DAT: at least 20.
- French PACES or MMOP.
- A-levels: A in Chemistry, A in Biology and B in Physics.
- IB: 35 points, including the Extended Essay and TOK, with 19 from HL Biology, HL Chemistry and HL or SL Physics.
- German Abitur: 1.70 or better.
- Swiss certificate: 5.50 or better.
The faculty links some routes to where you come from. The MCAT and DAT are for applicants from the USA and Canada. PACES and MMOP are for France. The Abitur is for Germany, and the Swiss certificate for Switzerland.
Check the year of your result
The years moved on for 2027/28 entry:[1]
- IB: you must take it in 2025/2026 or later. Last cycle, 2024/2025 still counted.
- Abitur and Swiss certificate: you must not have left school before 2025/2026. Last cycle, the limit was 2023/2024.
- A-levels: the faculty says results "from the academic year 2025/2026 at the latest". This wording is unclear, so ask your representative. Last cycle, it said 2024/2025.
So an IB or Abitur from 2024/2025 counted last year. It does not count for 2027/28 entry.
Your result fits a route? Ask your representative to confirm it before you book an exam date. Not sure, or your results come later? Plan to sit the exam too.

Papers and English
- Attach your last school year's transcript, or your final diploma, to the online application.
- Before you enrol, the Czech Republic must recognise your school education. This costs CZK 990, paid online.
- The faculty asks for no English certificate. The exam is in English.
- In some countries, an interview in English can be required.
- You apply only through the official representative for your country. The faculty lists them on its admission information page.
A common mix-up. Some agency pages say Masaryk requires an Abitur of 1.7 and B2 English. It does not. An Abitur of 1.70 or better is a route that replaces the exam. And the faculty asks for no English certificate.
Charles First Faculty: top results skip the written test
This covers the First Faculty of Medicine in Prague only. Charles has other medical faculties, and each sets its own exam.
From the university's admission criteria for English General Medicine, 2027/28:[2]
- You need a school-leaving certificate.
- You may sit the exam once per academic year.
- The exam has two parts: a written test, then five online interviews (MMI).
Who can skip the written test
New for 2027/28: some results let you skip the written test and go straight to the interviews. School results must be completed in 2022 or later:[2]
- IB: at least 36 points, with at least 13 points from two HL subjects. One must be Chemistry or Biology. The other can be Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Maths AA or AI.
- A-levels: A*AA or better. One subject must be Chemistry or Biology. Another must be Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Further Mathematics. At least one of those two must be an A*.
- AP: at least 14 points over three AP tests. You need a 5 in AP Chemistry or AP Biology, and a 4 or 5 in another listed AP.
- European Baccalaureate: at least 85%. You need at least 9.0 out of 10 in Biology or Chemistry, and at least 8.5 in another listed subject. None of these can be below 8.0.
- German Abitur: Biology or Chemistry as a Leistungskurs at 13 points or more, and an average of 1.3 or better.
Degrees and earlier study can count too:
- a finished master's in General Medicine or Dentistry, from the Czech Republic, the EU or the OECD
- a bachelor's or master's finished in 2022 or later, in the Czech Republic, the EU or the OECD. It must be in biology or ecology, pharmacy, physics, chemistry, kinanthropology (the study of human movement), veterinary medicine or a health field.
- at least six semesters of General Medicine or Dentistry, finished in 2022 or later, in the EU or the OECD
You ask for this in the university's application system. Everyone sits the interviews, without exception. Only the interview points decide who gets a place.
This replaces last cycle's rule. In 2026/27, top results earned a 10% bonus on the written test instead.
Could not enrol last year?
Did you pass both parts in 2026/27, but could not enrol for a serious reason, such as a visa delay? You may ask to skip the whole exam. This applies to 2027/28 only.[2]
English and documents
- No English certificate is needed. Passing the online interviews shows your English is good enough.[2]
- For 2026/27, the faculty also asked for no personal statement.[3]
- Does the faculty assess your foreign education? Then send legalised documents by 31 August 2027, and pay an assessment fee. The criteria give no amount.
More on the exam itself in our Charles guide.
Palacký: the exam, an interview and an English rule
From the faculty's General Medicine page and official notice board:[4][5]
- The written test covers biology, chemistry, and physics or maths. You choose physics or maths.
- After the written test, you have an interview with the admissions board, about your motivation.
- You may sit once each academic year.
- The faculty says the level matches British A-levels.
- You can apply yourself. The faculty says independent applicants are welcome on its online exam dates.
English. Not a native English speaker? Show at least B2 English with one of these:
- Cambridge FCE or higher
- IELTS 6 or higher
- TOEFL 87 or higher
- PTE Academic 59 or higher
- the psychometric test (PET)
No certificate? Take the university's own English test, on the day of your entrance exam. Did your school or university teach in English? Send proof, and you do not need the test.
School results and exemptions. This guide does not cover Palacký's rules on school results yet. Check the faculty's General Medicine page, or ask the faculty, before you apply.
Do you need IELTS or TOEFL?
- Masaryk: no. The faculty asks for no English certificate.
- Charles First Faculty: no. Passing the online interviews shows your English.
- Palacký: you need B2 English if you are not a native speaker. Show IELTS 6, TOEFL 87, FCE, PTE Academic 59 or the PET. Or take the university's own test on exam day. Studied in English? Send proof instead.
Applying to more than one school?
Each faculty sets its own exam and its own rules. So check each school on its own:
- The routes differ. Masaryk's A-level route asks for A in Chemistry, A in Biology and B in Physics. Charles asks for A*AA or better.
- You may sit each exam once a year. Choose your dates with care.
- Each school has its own deadline. See the 2027 dates and deadlines.
What each school charges is in our fees guide.
Practice for the exams, when it opens
When practice opens, All-School Prep will cover all three schools, each in its own format. It will not cover the interviews, the Palacký maths option or the Palacký English test. See when practice opens.
